This honestly hasn't been a big deal for me, there really hasn't been much of a change except it's like an extended summer and I have school work. The school work, as long as I just sit down and get started I'll keep that momentum for hours, sometimes I'll stop at 2 in the morning but I have all of my work finished for the week. There have been things to do around the house, yesterday I became a gardener for a day. I went and did some research on the plants my grandma brought over. Then I got to work it took me most of the day but I am very happy with how it turned out. Normally we can go out and kind of do our own thing, but with the shelter at home we can only go to grocery stores and come back home, we can't really eat out. The biggest thing we take for granted is human interaction, I don't really feel the loneliness as much because I have 3 siblings and 2 amazing parents. The other major thing we take for granted is that we have money to do things, but now quite a few of our citizens aren't making money. They receive only what comes with the CARES Act. I am part of one of the lucky families who still gets an income. This is because my dad is a teacher. What I am kind of scared for is Leif. He is in the reserve unit, however he is still in highschool, maybe that will make a difference, but I'm scared he'll get pulled, and because there are so many strands Leif can die. I'm also scared for my parents because they are the ones who go out to buy us house supplies, they have an even greater chance of getting sick. I suppose the other thing we take for granted is that we believe that out family is always safe until events like this happen, blissful ignorance. I am very upset though because this whole disaster could have been prevented had our President helped when China first announced the disease. President Trump could have sent CDC professionals to China to help research the disease and even comp up with a vaccine for it, we would have already had tests out. Instead he chose to ignore it saying it was China's problem and that we were in a trade war with them so why should we. Even now Trump will send ventilators to hospitals, but they may not even work. Look at California they received them and when they plugged them in they just wouldn't start. It had come down to hospitals bidding for ventilators when we should all be working together to fight off COVID-19. It really makes a difference on how you choose to spin it. I say that because I could be livid, but I know that there is nothing I can do to change the past. Instead, I choose to look ahead and see what I can do. I wrote a letter to our congressman asking what they could do to benefit the citizens more. He responded and told me that he would bring it up and try his best. Even if you can't go out there are still ways to help others, you just have to look. I hope coming out of this we will learn from our mistake and do better the next time something similar will occur.
Coping with the pandemic and schoolwork really hasn’t been easy. Like in my honest opinion we shouldn’t even have homework during a time like this. For instance, in my case I have a lot of more important things to worry about and take care of than homework. Like my cousin stuck in Japan sick with coronavirus and not a single one of my family members know if he’s going to make it home. Also, with work and me being laid off and other workers also. I’ve been trying not to let any of this get to my head. I just do what I can do to make the situation better as much as I can. Even though the news says it’s getting worse every day. I try to look on the bright side of things even if nothing seems to be going right. For the question of has this been a big change for me. Yes, yes it has been. Having to take precaution for almost every little thing. Making sure we don’t get sick and for my case where I live get bit from a rattlesnake. One thing that’s changed for me at least is my sleep schedule. Waking up at 6 to go feed the animals then go to sleep at 12 after I’m done patrolling the house for snakes. I kid you not I shot a snake last night that was only 8ft away from house. What this crisis taught me about the things that we take for granted is that you miss the little things. The ability to just leave the house is a big one. Hell, even seeing other people. The fact that I live outside of town it gets kind a lonely out here. I’m even starting conversations with my animals cause of how little people live out here. If this stuff keeps dragging on, I’m pretty sure I’m going to go mad at one point, but for now I’m alright. I got plenty of projects at my house to do to keep me busy. Worse case scenario I’m going to be dragging out my grandpa’s old cars and get them running again, or get mine running right. As in they don’t shut off after driving it 4ft from where it was. For now, though I just got to keep busy and stay safe. I hope to see everyone once this all over and see that everyone made it out okay
This pandemic has affected me in both positive and negative ways. Schoolwork hasn't been much of deal since we have more free time to complete the assignments we are assigned. Online school is easier for me because we have our own schedules and even though we have due dates we still have more time to complete them. I do miss my friends, however, I've always wanted to take online classes rather than public classes due to the reason time is on your side. All of us are adopted to taking classes in school, so taking classes online is something we are starting to get used to. On the other side taking classes online can be difficult because for some students assigned work can be hard and they don't have someone to ask in person. Social distancing on the other side is more of a deal since you aren't able to hangout with your friends and when you got to stores like H-E-B, Dollar General, and Walmart you have to make a line and be 6-feet away from each other and for some stores they have a limit on how many people can be inside buying food. After we got released for spring break, everyone started talking about COVID 19 and it made people go crazy and literally make stores run out of food, napkins, and toilet papers. This affected many families like mine, since it was really hard to get food and the owners of the stores were limiting how many products you can buy and you would have to go from store to store to buy groceries you would buy normally in a regular day. This pandemic has affected the whole world in both financial and educational ways. In some places of the world students don't have access to the internet since they don't have Wi-Fi or a phone and therefore can't keep up with their education. In other cases financial problems are a really big things since many people are losing their jobs because we have to stay quarantined and they don't have money to pay their bills since they aren't working and people who aren't U.S citizens are having a more difficult time because they aren't going to receive help from the government and if they are in the streets going to their workplace and they get stopped they get deported and might not see their family again. This crisis has taught us many things like don't take things for granted, in order to prevent diseases you have to wash your hands for more than 20 seconds, and to take advantage of what you possess and use it wisely. This has made me realize to be thankful to everyone who helped me out with some things and to appreciate everything you are given by someone because you only live once and that can come to an end anytime especially during this crisis.
This pandemic has been hard for everyone since we weren't expecting it to be strict. For me, coping with school work has been easy with some classes but with others I have a difficulty getting my work done. It's hard to get some work done since it is hard to understand the topic in some of the subjects. For example, in math, I have so many questions to ask the teacher but it is hard to learn it through just a pdf. This social distancing has also been a change for everyone since we are not used to just staying at home and not talk or socialize with anyone else besides our family members. We do have the advantage of technology and different ways to communicate with our friends and loved ones without exposing ourselves to go outside to see them. In my opinion, I really took for granted a lot of things like seeing my friends and hanging out with them, or with my family and trips, things these that I wouldn't pay attention to that I was happy with and now we can't even be less than 6 feet apart from maybe even our family. This pandemic has been difficult in many ways to everyone.
Lucia Barrera ENGL 1302 SB9 Response 6 For the most part the work that has been assigned is pretty easy for the most part it, except for a physics assignment which I didn’t understand at all, but anyways, I don’t mind at all because it keeps me entertained for a part of the day. Now the social distancing is what I do not favor, because I cannot go out anywhere. A friend’s birthday just passed and we couldn’t celebrate it, so that pretty much ruined our plans. I’ve wanted to go to the pulga, but it’s closed as well. There aren’t many places available to go to, besides Mexico, majority of the stores are opened, so that’s great. I went last weekend and it was worth leaving the house after two weeks of not going anywhere. Therefore, the pandemic has caused a change. As I mentioned earlier, I had plans on going out, but those got cancelled, besides I am used to going out at least once a week with my friends and at the moment we can’t do so nor can my family go grocery shopping like usual, which is something I enjoy. Throughout this crisis, I have learned that i actually prefer to learn in school than online because frankly, I spend the majority of the time staring at a screen and it eventually hurts my eyes. As well as that, I should enjoy the days that are “normal” because when things like this occur you start to realize and appreciate many things that on a daily we take for granted. The little things really are the ones that matter and if we take a moment to actually think about them, you realize how much of an impact they have in our every day life. I have spent time with my family and I think we are getting closer, so I think we’re doing pretty good so far.
In my opinion, this pandemic has not really affected me a lot. Schoolwork has not really been a problem because it is the same as if we went to school. As long as we do not procrastinate, then the schoolwork should not be so difficult to do. Some of our teachers as well give us a time window in which they would help us with our homework and answer the questions we have. Yes, we receive a lot of work from many teachers now; however, most of them give us a week to finish all of it. Overall, the online portion that we are doing for school has been quite easy to adapt to. On the other hand, social distancing has been quite the trouble. We cannot hang out with friends or go out to much places. At first we did not believe the virus would hit us, however, when it did, we blew everything out of proportion. Currently, places like Dollar General only allow ten people at a time to be in the store and people as well have to be six feet away from each other. Stores are also limiting the amount of items that people can get. Currently, I do not feel these factors as difficult since nothing has really changed. I have internet, a laptop, and a printer so the school portion is easy. However, for some people, these are tough times. Many people do not have access to internet nor a laptop. Many of us took advantage of school and how easy they made everything for us. They provided us with access to the internet, teachers to provide a safe environment, and daily meals. These little things like school should not be taken for granted. Until now, the school system is still providing meals for students to pick up and trying to get internet service available for their students. The virus has helped many of us realize the things we are given should not be disregarded, rather we should be grateful for being able to have them. Essentially, this pandemic has showed us a new way of living and adapting to the things we have available. Overall, we are doing fine for the moment and doing everything possible in order to get through this. For now, we just have to realize and appreciate everything we are being given.
When the school district first announced that classes were canceled till April 6th, I was kind of glad that we were having an extension to the break. When school was canceled until further notice and then I realize the pandemic wasn’t just one of the regular viruses when the case and death toll went up. Its hard to stay in home all the time it’s frustrating to know that you can’t go anywhere anymore. So far, I have been doing my part of the social distancing by no going anywhere and staying inside. When they told us to login google classroom with our school email, I was scared I was going to fail the classes since the school never told us our emails. My friend helped me out to find my school email then I started to do my work that I had due this week. What I’ve taken for granted is being able to travel anywhere, go to any store at any time, and going out with friends. My friends and I had planned a fishing trip to delta lake but then they announced social distancing and closed delta lake. I know this is for our own good to not travel but its frustrating not being to go anywhere. It feels that I’ve been robbed of my free will. With that being said I hove thing turn back to normal soon because I’m tired of staying home. I mean it’s nice and all, but I want to go to the outside world once in a while because I haven’t gone out since emergency was issued.
This pandemic can be both a negative yet positive factor brought upon us. School work online is simple to do since we get to work at our own pace and within our own schedules. However, for some classes it is not so easy to keep up with especially since were not learning how we’re used to learning. For me it is easier to learn and stay focused at school rather than trying to study from my house because I end up not actually taking in any of the information. That being said, I’m hoping these online classes help improve my studying habits which can be useful for me as a student in the future. This crisis has shown me the things we take for granted, the freedom we had to just go anywhere we wished to at whatever time we wanted. The simple fact of being able to surround yourself with people you enjoy being with. Food is also something people seem to be struggling to find now that we had been ordered to stay quarantined and are limited to some resources we are used to having, people have realized how much this really matters in our everyday lives. Social distancing hasn’t really affected me since I don’t usually go out either way but I do miss my friends and just wish to be able to hang out with them like we used to. I believe this pandemic can really bring a positive change to world once it is over. Hopefully people realize how important it is to keep ourselves healthy and learn to adapt and work together in order to thrive as a society.
How did am I doing in this pandemic and time of struggle?Well theres many things to take in account during this pandemic like the missing of school, friends, and extra curricular activities such as sports and clubs outside of school.Well as far as schoolwork I will say I am doing pretty good since I get all my assignments off google clasroom and blackboard so there is a major difference when it comes to my schoolwork for highschool and college classes. But when it comes to social distancing I kinda miss my friends, not being able to hangout with my friends and do the things we love doing kinda makes all of this situation even worse and more boring for everyone. But overall it has not been a big change for me personally but i would say for my parents yes since they are so used to going to work everyday that it feels very different for them since they are stuck in the house most of the day.One main thing that this pandemic has showed me that I take for granted is my family since we talk all the time when I get home from school but this time period helps me spend way more time with my parents and overall making a bigger bond for the both of us showing we can do so much things together.Another thing that we also may take for granted is our resources such as food and more we are barely noticing how valuable these resources are in order for us to survive and be in a sustainable place during this crisis,so yeah many people take our resources for granted but are barely realizing how valuable these resources are during this pandemic. So there are many things that this pandemic has brought to us and I shared my personal way on how I was dealing with these certain situations and how it has changed me and affected me during this specific pandemic.
Kristen Almendarez/Montes ENGL 1302 SB9 Response #6 Throughout the past couple of weeks that started as our Spring Break, then turned to a long period of time off from not only school but any outside interactions, I have had much time to think and get things done. Though this sounds decent, after a couple of days I ended up getting bored. And eventually when online school came around, I began to become busy and annoyed. Essentially, I believe that everyone now realizes how much we took our everyday lives for granted and now would love things to return to normal. A couple of months ago, I’m almost sure I had at least one day where I wished school was over and that I could just be home and do things on my own time. Now that school has been moved online and the only place I can be is HOME, I would love to go back to school and have social interactions with my dance team, guard team, classmates and teachers. I feel like we’re missing out on so much! The months that were supposed to be our Powder Puff Football, Spring Ball, Prom, and so much more are now months of quarantine in one place. As a teenager who’s days are packed with practices, school, and meetings, this has been a big change for me. I now realize how good we had it a couple of months ago, and how much I’d love things to return to normal. This crisis has for sure shown me that something we are so used to can easily be altered due to things that our world experiences. Not only I learned to not take advantage of my blessings, but I’m beginning to learn more about myself and how to handle the way things are now. Though his has greatly altered how a typical day would be for me, I can do nothing but try and make the best out of what I have now. As learned, things can always be worse, so taking them for granted and seeing the glass half empty should never be an option.
Ivan Costilla ENGL 1302 SB9 Response 6 As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the work, and the Rio Grande Valley, the outbreak has brought change to my lifestyle. Schoolwork has not been a problem for me to complete because of all the free time I have. Although I do procrastinate and do several assignments on the due date, I still manage to complete them. I do find learning new lessons challenging when it comes to online classes. Most of my teachers post new lessons as a video which makes it challenging for me to ask questions due to the video being pre-recorded. I do miss school, my friends, and the freedom of going to different places. I still manage to be active by working out, practicing my instrument, and practicing my guard technique. I do admit that the pandemic brought a drastic change to society when it comes to resources. We all took for granted the food we had in our refrigerator. Food and water is difficult to obtain due to people buying large quantities and stores putting limits such as “one per person” in recent weeks. Many people re-sell food products for twice the price which is illegal during this situation. Both of my parents are fortunate to still have their job due to unemployment being a global problem. Overall, my family and I are safe and healthy. One lesson I’m learning from this pandemic is that nothing is for granted in life and people’s true intentions show in difficult situations.
This pandemic hasn't affected me to where staying indoors has driven me insane or not being able to do the things I used to has taken a toll on me. The online work has been very simple but the amount of work we have been receiving is a lot. I think that we can do the work easily if we don't procrastinate and if we did our work on their respectable days so we won't be overwhelmed with doing assignments in one day. Having a teacher physically in front of you to having a teacher talking to you through is screen can be very difficult. Not being in a school environment has really thrown me off. Also going from hands on learning to online learning was an obstacle but I became adjusted quickly. Online school has its benefits as well as its negatives. Although I said its not driving me insane not doing the things I used to doesn't mean I don't miss doing them. I miss going out with my friends when we were bored, I miss going out to eat, and I miss visiting my family on the weekends. I miss going to school and dreading going to the classes I hated the most which are the ones I wish I could've spend more time in. I especially miss spending time with those who meant the absolute most to me. Never did we think a day like this would come, we had everything at our fingertips and thought we had power over something. Which was far from the truth. It's sad that we are at a point where not seeing your friends or family is an act of love and that showing physical affection is considered to be a dangerous act. I definitely took for granted the little things I had and the moments I got to spends with my friends. I mostly took for granted my freedom and the resources we had. Now I can't even walk outside without being worried about the virus. It's heartbreaking to think of all the families that are short on supplies and resources because selfish people aren't being logical or considerate of others. Seeing all the empty shelves and fridges is so sad because once upon a time we had everything and more. Going to the grocery store and seeing everyone with a mask and gloves makes everything feel so surreal. Every time I walk into a store I feel like I'm being controlled because of all the restrictions we have but they are for our own benefit. There was a time when this virus only existed in the news or on TV and now this virus is right outside our door. It hasn't really hit me that this is actually happening, but I know its here. It hasn't taken a toll on me because I know that this is all going to be over so I chose to look forward to the day that we all regain our freedom rather than to dwell over the fact that we are going to be stuck in these same four walls for quite some time. Although it's hard for people to stay in their homes they don't understand the danger they put themselves or others in. If only people could stop with the coffee runs or other things that are not essential the sooner this is over. Social distancing is hard but that doesn't mean we can't communicate. Luckily the technology we have allows us to stay connected to others. This virus has only just begun and will continue to attack, but as a community we can come together and slow it down and put a stop to it. I look forward to the day we can rejoin the world again and go back to normal. Hopefully thats what everyone strives for as well.
The situation that has been going on throughout society today has affected us in more than just are education lives it has also influenced our personal lives. It has changed my life completely; everything changed sense the last day at school. Once we received the email that school was closing, I am not going to lie I was somewhat excited because I didn’t have to go to. However, when things got more serious it started messing with my mind a little especially. Then I started paying attention to news more often and that when it really did hit me. I figured that not everything was going to stay the same. For instance, clinics started closing down in the way that the government didn’t let people go in to wait for their doctor appointments. They now have to wait in cars until the doctor calls them up. How exactly do I know this because I had to take my grandma to her doctor’s appointment and they made us get in line until she was called. We both didn’t know this so could you imagine the surprise. Anther situation we ran into was when I took you to pay the water the long was super long because you couldn’t go inside pay it. The way that has affected me in the way I see life is that now I really know it means to say that is not granted so don’t take it for granted you. Like once you put in situation were your scared to get sick because you know what a big deal it cause. Also in real note, every day you wake up alive and just spend time with your family is valued more because you don’t know what could happen the next time. The fact that now we run with fear for life. The fact that we are so limited makes you realize we really don’t know the value of life until we actually experience the fear of losing it in pain. Honestly I never imagine things could change so much where we value more the moments we had with friends and family and how sometimes you even wish you were at work or school because everything is better.
Brandon Alanis ENGL1302.SB9 During this pandemic I think that doing school work from home is more complicated and it’s harder to learn without a teacher here. I am a visual learner so I prefer to go to school and learn rather and to do all the work online with no teacher explaining. It is not such a big change for me because I have taken online college classes before. It is not that much different from high school online classes. The social distancing part of the pandemic is getting hard because me and my family are used to seeing each other every other weekend. I hate having to do this social distancing but it is required in order to stop or slow down the spread of the COVID-19. With this crisis that we are in right now I have learned that we shouldn’t take things for granted. I learned that we shouldn’t take our jobs for granted because so many people have lost their jobs due to this virus. People use to not want to go to work because they didn’t want to and now people are worried looking for jobs because they lost theirs. I am worried that this virus will get to the point where no one will want to leave their house. People that lost their jobs are struggling to buy and keep house supplies in their home because it is even so risky to even go out to the store and just buy the essential things we need to survive. I also think that we take school for granted because I’m sure most of us have complained that we have to go to school and during this crisis I have learned that I actually want to go to school now. I rather learn in class than from home just sitting on my bed all day.
In my opinion, I think this pandemic has affected me and my family in many ways. One being not able to go out and see my other family members. My family is very used to getting together every weekend so now that we can't see them it's been very boring. Not being able to go out and do things we were so used to doing makes me realize that I'd take the smallest things for granted, for example, just being able to go out with my family yo go have dinner at the restaurant. We never thought having dinner at a restaurant was such a big deal until now, you start to realize you took the littlest things for granted. Being home all day for the past few weeks has been very boring, I've ran out of things to do. But I think staying home is something we should all do until told that is okay to be out in the streets because the faster we learn to stay home the faster this whole corona virus will settle down. As far as school work, it has been an okay experience for me. I think most of my teachers have assigned me more work than when we were actually in school. I find it a little bit more difficult to do everything online however I'm okay with it simply because I'm in comfort of my own home.
Lesly Mata English 1302 SB9 During this pandemic I have been getting used to the fact that we have to do and turn in work on time. This is different because you have to be able to teach yourself the subject and manage your time. The first week was difficult for me since this is new, but I did all my work and turned in everything on time. I feel this second week is going to be easier for me because I already got the hang of everything. This definitely has been a big change for me since everything has changed. I say it’s a big change because of the school work. The teachers usually give us plenty of work and can be hard to handle. This has not affected me in going out since my family and I didn’t go out as much. We have been staying at home and it has been a bit boring at times. When my family got bored we went to stores or even visited my cousins, but now we can’t do that. I took that for granted and realized so many other things. At first I thought that STC would not shut down and didn’t think this was going to get worse. I’m just grateful that some people are staying home and following what they told us to do. This is tough for everyone in the world right now. I think this was necessary since we need to know that when they take something away from us we then realize how much we had. We will all get through this and everything would be fine.
Krystyne Nuñez SB9 Response Paper 6 During this world pandemic, it’s a lot harder to do anything. My school work and such has been affected by this virus. Not only my work, but my everyday routine has been changed. Instead of going to school and them telling me I have work\homework, I have to try and look at my google classrooms and my blackboard for assignments. My internet is very hard to rely on since it goes out constantly because we are a family of 6 all using Wi-Fi. My school work is my main concern at the moment since I can’t really write on anything and turn it in. It’s a lot harder to turn everything in via google classrooms and editing it through some weird websites I’ve never heard of until after the break. I really miss school and being taught in a classroom rather than watching other videos to help me do my work. The way I do my work has changed and so has the ways of traveling. My family can’t travel together to go visit my uncle in Corpus, or to enjoy a walk in the park since they prohibited more than two people in a car. When we go to stores we only get what we need and nothing that we want because we don’t know how long this is gonna last. My dad is a UPS worker and they don’t get a hazardous pay, he faces many people in the world and we don’t know if they are sick or not. We constantly worry about his health and worry that he might have to one day be taken away from us and quarantined. The lack of socializing is taking a toll on me. I miss hanging out with my friends and making each other laugh. My friends are the ones who made my days a lot better than they actually seemed. Since social distancing is a thing now, it’s very hard to just not have anybody to talk to in person. Although these are just a few things that are happening.
Jaelah Gudino SB9 Response paper 6 During this pandemic dealing with my school work is not that bad. Just the first couple of days online work was a little hectic because not everybody knew what was really going on. Now that I have gotten the hang of things it’s not bad. I would much rather do online work than be at school because I don’t have to be around unnecessary people and my day ends quicker. Social distancing has not been easy but its what’s best for us right now to minimize the spread of the virus. My family has had us self-quarantined since before were required to stay in, so it feels like it’s been longer. The pandemic has been a change for me because I’m not used to being around my family for so long and seeing them all the time. It has also been a change in a nutritious way because we are usually used to eating out every day but since we really can’t leave our house we eat healthy foods daily. Another way it’s been a big change is it’s my senior year. Lots of things that I have looked forward to for a long time are “postponed” and might not happen; but there are bigger things going on right now that it isn’t relevant right now. This crisis has taught me about things I usually take for granted like driving, going to eat with people and just being out; it’s the simplest things. Soon all this will be over and hopefully everything to how it used to be.

For the most part the work that has been assigned is pretty easy for the most part it, except for a physics assignment which I didn’t understand at all, but anyways, I don’t mind at all because it keeps me entertained for a part of the day.
ReplyDeleteWhen the school district first announced that classes were canceled till April 6th, I was kind of glad that we were having an extension to the break.

DeleteThis pandemic can be both a negative yet positive factor brought upon us.
ReplyDeleteHow did am I doing in this pandemic and time of struggle?Well theres many things to take in account during this pandemic like the missing of school, friends, and extra curricular activities such as sports and clubs outside of school.Well as far as schoolwork I will say I am doing pretty good since I get all my assignments off google clasroom and blackboard so there is a major difference when it comes to my schoolwork for highschool and college classes.

Throughout the past couple of weeks that started as our Spring Break, then turned to a long period of time off from not only school but any outside interactions, I have had much time to think and get things done.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the work, and the Rio Grande Valley, the outbreak has brought change to my lifestyle.

ReplyDeleteOnce we received the email that school was closing, I am not going to lie I was somewhat excited because I didn’t have to go to.

During this pandemic I think that doing school work from home is more complicated and it’s harder to learn without a teacher here.

During this pandemic I have been getting used to the fact that we have to do and turn in work on time.

During this world pandemic, it’s a lot harder to do anything.

During this pandemic dealing with my school work is not that bad.
